Before the world went crazy a few years ago, I used to travel multiple times a year. Stepping back from that had felt… necessary, but not fun. Booking that first one felt daunting, like I had to make my first trip perfect. I managed to break the seal with a couple trips to Mexico, thanks to other people’s planning, in the last few months and it’s revitalized my need to get out of the country regularly.

Mexico was the ideal little taster. Reading books by the pool, walks along the surf, many tacos, and good friends. More than once since Puerto Vallarta I’ve checked how unreasonable it would be to pop back down for the weekend just to get tacos from Pepe’s. I don’t think it’s that bad of an idea,

I honestly don’t think I could get sick of it and now I’m not sure how to live without tan lines. I’ve got an incredible hotel in Tulum, La Valise, on my travel wishlist with a bed that rolls out on to the deck. It’s the only kind of sleeping under the stars I’m made for, the kind with a king sized bed and high thread count sheets.

The rest of the year I hope will include somewhere in Europe. Portia La Coste might have my head if I keep telling her I’m coming to visit and not following through. So if anyone wants to sightsee around London, let me know. You’d need to be prepared to take a lot of photos of me in front of the giant plants in Kew Gardens and go nose blind sniffing perfumes in all the shops I’ve got bookmarked.

There is also beautiful pottery retreat in Sicily that has been calling my name as well. Waking up in an old city, playing with clay in a converted monastery all morning and swimming in the ocean in the afternoon would be a holiday to remember. Taking home pieces we’ve made together would be so special. If you’ve never done pottery I’ll even reenact the scene from Ghost with you. I’m Patrick Swayze though.

There’s empty pages in my passport with your name on them.
